Katella Deli: Live Cockroaches Found During Reinspection
4470 Katella Ave, Los Alamitos, CA 90720
The Reinspection Surprise
Reinspections are supposed to verify that problems are fixed. At Katella Deli Restaurant in Los Alamitos, the reinspection on October 28, 2025 found something new — and alive.
Inspectors came back to check on broken coolers. Here's the scorecard:
- Salad cold top cooler: Fixed (verified at 41F or below)
- Cook's line drawer cooler: Still broken
- Cockroaches: Present. Live ones.
One out of three ain't great.
What the Inspector Found
- Live cockroaches observed — referred to violation #24 in the full report
- Cook's line drawer cooler still in disrepair — can't hold food at safe temperatures
- Only the salad cold top was verified as functional
A reinspection was scheduled to verify both the cooler repair and elimination of cockroach activity.
The Bottom Line
Finding live cockroaches during a reinspection is about as bad as timing gets. The restaurant was already on notice for broken equipment, and now there's a pest problem too. Two active issues at once suggests the kitchen needs more than just a quick fix.
Los Alamitos isn't short on delis. This one needs to pass both the cooler and cockroach reinspections before we'd recommend a visit.
